Understanding private gender scan
At 16 weeks, a gender ultrasound scan can reliably determine your baby’s gender, offering expectant parents the chance to discover this exciting news 4 weeks earlier than the standard 20-week NHS scan. During the gender scan, also known as a sexing scan, the sonographer will show you your baby’s heart, head, legs, and arms, and let you listen to the heartbeat.
If you want to keep the gender a secret, we can print a picture of the baby, label it accordingly, and place it in an envelope for you to take home. After the scan, the sonographer will select the two best images and print them on black and white thermal paper. Additional colour photo prints are available for an extra fee, and you can choose your favourite images to print. Later that day, we will email you all your scan pictures, video clips, and a detailed report, ensuring you have all the memories from your special experience.

Prepare for your Scan
- Please drink 0.5 litres of water approximately 1 hour before your appointment.
- Do not empty your bladder before the scan
- Wear loose fitting clothes
- We allow a maximum of two people in the room
Please note that the basic well-being scan included in this service assesses your baby’s health and development but does not include growth measurements or an estimate of your baby’s weight. You can add growth measurements to your scan for an additional £20.
